Corsica, often called the Île de Beauté, has a winemaking culture shaped by both France and Italy, yet undeniably its own. Its rugged mountains, granite soils, and Mediterranean breezes create wines with a salty, sun-kissed freshness that reflect their island terroir. Indigenous grapes such as Niellucciu (related to Sangiovese), Sciaccarellu, and Vermentinu thrive here, producing styles that balance rustic charm with modern elegance. Today, Corsican wines are experiencing a renaissance, prized for their authenticity and sense of place.
At the heart of this revival is Domaine Alzipratu, founded in the 1960s near Calvi on Corsica’s northwest coast. Surrounded by the maquis—Corsica’s fragrant wild scrub—and cooled by sea breezes, the vineyards yield wines that are perfumed, precise, and unmistakably Corsican.…
